Ana Paula Pêgo

Ana P. Pêgo got her Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry and Biomaterials in 2002 (Twente University, Netherlands).
She is the founder and director of the nBTT Group – nanoBiomaterials for Targeted Therapies. By using nanomedicine strategies, her group aims at proposing new vectors for (targeted) nucleic acid delivery to neuronal cells; developing new materials and scaffolds for the design of cellular grafts to be used in nerve defect correction; designing glial tissue engineered constructs as platforms for nervous system drug testing. Emphasis is given to the application of both in vitro and in vivo bioimaging tools to assess the potential of the developed strategies.
She is an Associate Professor at the Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar, as well as at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto. She is an Associate Editor of Biomaterials (Elsevier) and currently serves as secretary of the European Society for Biomaterials.
