Instituto Nacional de Engenharia Biomédica (INEB)

Porto, Portugal

INEB is a private non-profit association with the statute of public interest, founded in June 1989 by 6 institutions, including the University of Porto (UP). INEB’s mission is to generate knowledge, by promoting research, advanced training and technology transfer in Biomedical Engineering. INEB has adopted the motto “Engineering for life”, to express our involvement in the development of technologies and devices aimed at improving patients’ quality of life and the continuous learning with living organisms. Transdisciplinarity is a distinctive feature of INEB. Integrative research, involving specialists in biomaterials, tissue regeneration, nanomedicine, bioimaging, medical signals, biology and medicine has brought international recognition to the institute. About 200 persons work at INEB (including 63 PhDs and 83 post-graduate students). INEB is a dynamic institute with a large majority of young researchers (79% of researchers < 40 yrs). The ESRs’ projects will be carried out at the nanoBiomaterials for Targeted Therapies Group, which is dedicated to the development of “smart” biomaterials to provide the required signals to promote tissue function and repair.
