Maurizio Gulino
PhD Student
I am a Ph.D. student working at INEB, a big research institute in Porto (Portugal). I completed my master’s degree in biotechnologies in Italy, working on the synthesis of neuroprotective drugs and their characterization using mouse models. I started working here in May 2018, after finishing an Erasmus+ traineeship experience in the University of Braga (Portugal). My work at INEB is focused on study of the foreign body response of the brain tissue to implantable microelectrodes. I will investigate the process of corrosion in the biological environment and the key mechanisms at the core of the neuroinflammation in response to the microelectrode materials.
I am enthusiastic to participate in this project: it is a great opportunity for my future career and for the possibility to pursue the neuroscience field in the context of material sciences.
