Work Package 4

Development and characterization of protective, multifunctional coatings

Lead Beneficiary:  JSI

Involved Partners: JSI, UPB, AGH, JTH, LIMA, UNIUD, UNITN, CIDETEC

Objectives: Different types of coatings will be developed and tested using several manufacturing techniques, such as electrodeposition from several electrolytes (aqueous, ionic liquids, suspensions), sol gel deposition, ALD, chemical and electrochemical passivation treatments. The main goal consists in protecting miniaturized components against corrosion without compromising their properties/functionalities. The following types of coatings will be developed: i) chemical and electrochemical passivation treatments for electronic and energy applications, ii) ALD inorganic-organic multilayers both for biomedical and for electronic applications, iii) Ni or Sn based alloy deposits from ionic liquid plating baths for electronic applications, iv) biocompatible inorganic and organic coatings for the protection of magnesium alloy implants, v) antibacterial sol gel composite coatings  on microporous titanium implants.
